Today is the day all gamers can rejoice! In a blog post over at the Playstation Blog, John Kodera announced that PS4 will be launching a Cross-Play beta starting with Fortnite today. Here’s a small portion of the announcement:
The first step will be an open beta beginning today for Fortnite that will allow for cross platform gameplay, progression and commerce across PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and Mac operating systems. We see the beta as an opportunity to conduct thorough testing that ensures cross-platform play is best on PlayStation, while being mindful about the user experience from both a technical and social perspective.
With that said we can possibly start to see other games like Rocket League & Minecraft get cross-platform play and possibly even larger titles releasing later this year that might show interest in the same like; Black Ops 4 or Fallout 76. Only time will tell, but this is definitely a step in the right direction for gamers everywhere.
